Professor Jack Guttentag,
the book's author is known as the "Mortgage
Professor." He writes a weekly syndicated newspaper column
carried by the The Los Angeles Times. He is Professor of
Finance Emeritus at the Wharton School of the University of
Pennsylvania, and founder of GHR Systems, Inc., a mortgage technology
company.
Don't be put off by this
book's title. This is not a dry technical book. It is called
an "encyclopedia" only because its topics are arranged alphabetically
instead of by chapters. This arrangement allows the book to serve

After reading this book,
you will be familiar with the wide variety of home mortgages and their
relative advantages and disadvantages. You will be able to better
advise your clients on how to qualify, apply, and shop for loans.
Most importantly, you will be able to protect your clients from
predatory lending practices and help them to avoid lending scams and
other forms of lending chicanery.

The course's final exam
consists of 60 true/false questions. Passing is 70%.
DRE regulations require you to
wait three days before you may take your exam. Furthermore, the
DRE requires you to take the exam in two parts and requires you to wait
24 hours after passing the exam for the first part before you may take
the exam for the second part.
You may retake the test for as many times as you need to pass and you
need not re-key in your answers from your previous attempt.
